Extracting data in time-dependent problem

Postby Ruben on Tue Oct 31, 2017 9:56 am

Dear moderator,

I use FlexPDE to solve a time-dependent problem and I want to extract some quantity values at each time step.
Using Report I got separated files, each with data from a particular time-step. How can I report a whole history in one file to have a table with the quantity at a corresponding time?

Best regards,
Ruben

You can use a HISTORY plot to get the data at each time step. Use EXPORT or EXPORT FORMAT to save that data to a text file.
See example "Samples | Usage | Import-Export | Export_History.pde".

Is there a way to only export a history at certain time increments?

A command like:

HISTORY (flow, temp) EXPORT FILE "myresults.txt" FORMAT "#t,#1,#2"

puts the values of time, flow & temp in a file called myresults.txt in the desired format. The output file includes a row for every time step, so getting the relatively few results I want in a concise table is tedious. Say I only want results at t=1, 2, ... end. Is there a way to do this?

Even with AUTOHIST=off, and requesting plots at increments of 1, I get the entire time history.

Thanks, Charlie

No, there is no mechanism for deleting data from a history report.
We assumed that since you paid for all this data, you would want to see it.
