Graphics Export does not want to export

General discussions about how to formulate a script for FlexPDE.

Graphics Export does not want to export

Postby trennie on Fri Mar 09, 2012 8:25 pm

While trying to post some example plots to this forum, I right-clicked on a plot in the result display, selected Export, and then selected type and resolution. I was able to export an EMF plot with no problem, but an attempt to export BMP or PNG files gave me "Export Failed!" with no more details. There were no files of the same name (including extension) present, and there's plenty of disk space.

Is this a known problem? It's frustrating.

Cordially,

What resolution are you trying to export?

We do occasionally see this report when trying to export very high resolution PNGs. Unfortunately it acts differently on different machines and appears to be an error generated in our QT graphics library, not from within the FlexPDE source.

Try lowering the requested resolution slightly and see if it works. If the resolution is already low, please send us the script and we will see if we can reproduce the error in-house.

I was exporting at high res to match the emf(8192) plot control result.

I think you're right about machine & OS dependence. I just tried this with the 64-bit version on my Windows 7 portable, and had no problem up to the max resolution available (which is less than 8192 - this seems different from the 32-bit version).

I'm happy enough with the EMF output, since it's easily converted (by IrfanView, for example) to web-friendly formats like PNG.

FlexPDE can export other graphics formats, too. You can export PNG at the same time as the EMF and would not need to convert the EMF to PNG.
