Moving mesh region shape is "stuck"

General discussions about how to formulate a script for FlexPDE.

Moving mesh region shape is "stuck"

Postby CDLang1 on Tue Jun 13, 2017 3:23 pm

This is based on sample problem 2D_blob_velocity.

I changed the shape of the blob and made it translate rather than oscillating in place. The blob moves as expected, but when I edit the boundaries section to change the blob shape or position it doesn't change in the simulation. The attached image shows an orange rectangle from the first run of the problem (it moves up & down in the domain, as expected). When I change the shape to be square it shows up in the mesh window (bottom status window on the left of the screen), but the new shape does not show up in a grid monitor, nor does it move - only the original rectangle moves.

I have to close FlexPDE7 and re-open for the new geometry to be implemented.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Charlie

This appears to be a failure in the "automesh" facility, which tries to read a previous mesh, as long as the domain has not changed.
The changed shape is not detected, and the old mesh is read in.
We will try to track this down and fix it, but in the meantime, you can simply use "SELECT automesh=off" to defeat the automatic mesh read.

automesh=off works, thanks.

6/14 release of version 7.05 includes a correction for this error.
