Does anyone have experience of/references to a spherical particel model?

I want to investigate the combustion of a solid spherical particle. Initially, I will assume that teh radius does not change, and then I will move on to looking at a shrinking sphere as teh material is consumed (I don't know if this bit can be done in FlexPDE?!?).

Any help would be appreciated.
