In order to estimate capacitance, I would like to model the 3d electric field around a stack of parallel conductor grids, each of which has a complicated 2d shape. It is relatively straightforward to specify any of the individual grid layers, but it appears that the extrusion model in practice will actually require region specifications describing every individual OVERLAP of the layers as well, which in my case is vastly more work. Is this interpretation correct ? Is there no way around this redundancy ? I am still using FlexPDE 2.22. It would seem very desirable to have a layer-by-layer extrusion option where new complex shapes can be specified in any given layer without "messing up" previous layers in the process. Such a specification option would conform closely to the buildup of structures through successive patterned levels in semiconductor IC fabrication. |

Your interpretation is correct. The 2D base plane specification must include the projection of all region boundaries in the figure. The layer-by-layer extrusion option you mention is one of the major advances currently being developed for FlexPDE version 4, and should be released later this year.

Is there a way to model in 3D two cylinder which axis is perpendicular ? |

There are at least two ways I can think of. The attached sample file shows two cylinders that meet in a 45 degree joint. Another way would be to define one arm horizontal and the other vertical, with sidewalls formed by the extrusion. This would require use of the VOID command to delete the extruded area above the horizontal arm.
