Dear FlexPDE users, I would like to start a "Wish-List" to give FlexPDE developer a feedback about what users like to be added to the future version of software. Most of the time users can give very useful suggestions which can improve the software. I invite all the users who like to help in improvement the FlexPDE put a little time and give developers their suggestion. Do this with replying to this thread.

1- Post processing Post processing is a very important in Modeling and Simulation using FE. While we know there is a way to do this by coding in FlexPDE why not to have a menu item named "Post Processing" with useful commands for different plots, exports,.... |

2- Different doamins with different governing equations. It is important to be able to define different PDEs in different domains and coupled them over boundaries. A very frequnt encounter field is Chemical Reaction Engineering. As an example consider a fixed bed reactor filled with spherical/cylindrical pellets. Different equations govern in different regions. NS in bulk fluid and diffusion inside the pellet, each have their own IC and BCs and copled over pellet outer surface. Of course Robert has commented with some tricks it is possible to do this (for some specific cases). /Mohammad

2- Different doamins with different governing equations. Any coefficient in a PDE can be reset by region, which means that you can drop out terms at will merely by defining the coefficient=0. So the equation can be completely changed region by region. You must be careful what the assumption of continuity of the natural BC at material interfaces means in this context. The Contact boundary condition allows you to specify coupling between regions, and supports discontinuity of the variables at this interface. So you can control the flux between regions or totally decouple them.

3- Hold on current graph It is very desirable to have elevation plots of a variable or a set of variables along a specified path during time-dependent and staged problems. So a very small wish is a "HOLD ON" modifier for elevation plots, in staged and time-dependent problems, to simply keep the graph of previous stage/time step in the figure and just update it for new stage/time step without overwriting it. Of course, when FlexPDE equipped by a post-processing menu in its menubar (see wish-1) we will have all of these. /Mohammad |
