Hi all...
I am trying to use FlexPDE to verify the FEM solution for a Hertz line contact. In simplest form this would consist of a long elastic cylinder pressed on a rigid plane. In my attempt, i modeled this in 2D as a quarter of a disk in 2D plane strain (details not mentioned here but can be discussed if interested). The problem is to find the parabolic pressure distribution and the extent of contact for given applied load, material, and geometry. I wonder if anyone has done this or knows of a reference on how to do this in FlexPDE. Thank you...
