Dear users/moderators, I am trying to solve a very non-linear temporal 1D problem. Because I cannot find the solution, I am trying to stage the problem. Do you think that I can consider the time as a "fictious space-variable", to transform the temporal 1D probelm in a 2D problem? This can be useful to use a staged approach. Thank you for your help, Alberto |

In principle, there is nothing preventing you from using the second space coordinate as a time variable. Attached herewith are two resurrected PDEase2 problems that do this for a diffusion problem. The notes in the scripts describe the process. One possible drawback in your application is that FlexPDE wants to solve all nodes in the "spatial" (ie space/time in your case) domain simultaneously, rather than evolving from one state to the next. In a seriously nonlinear system, this process could go unstable or run an embarrasingly long time. |
