I just downloaded FlexPDE 5.0.17 on a 64-bit Windows Vista Machine. When I click on "help" it thinks for a couple of seconds (i.e. the mouse changes to the Vista version of the "thinking timer") and then stops (back to the normal mouse) and no help pops up. I'd like to be able to view help on the Vista machine, what's going on? Thanks. Jared |

We don't have a 64-bit Vista machine right now, we'll have to install it at try it out.

We installed Vista/64 on an Athlon 4200x2, then installed fpde5017wintel64.exe, and FlexPDE accesses Help in the normal way. I don't know what's going wrong with your system. Try reinstalling FlexPDE.

It seemed it needed a restart. |

Actually, it still doesn't work but that's because it doesn't work in "special situations". (It works fine in normal situations.) Try this and see if it doesn't work. Run "Traveling_Cyl" (see my other post for "Moving Boundaries"). Then try to access help. Doing that gives me the exact same results as I had before, that is, help won't work after the "error" has occurred. |

Sorry about that, I think I have it narrowed down. On my machine, help will not open if you try to open it only after you've run code. If you open it before you run any code, it works fine. In addition, if you open it before you run code, then close help, then run code, then try to open help again, it will open. If you haven't opened it, run code, then try to open it, it will not open. I hope that you can duplicate some of these situations on your computer to see what I'm talking about. Thank you. Jared |

Yes, I can duplicate that behavior. I'll see if I can figure out what is going on. Meantime, you'll have to fire up a second copy of FlexPDE to access the help while you are running.

Apparently, Microsoft has disabled the old Registry method of accessing HTML Help files in the 64 bit systems. I have implemented a direct path access, and the Help system now works as long as the FlexPDE5.chm file is in the same directory as flexpde5.exe. You can download the corrected version from www.pdesolutions.com/buglist5.html
