Is it possible to construct a section of a solenoidal coil of round-cross-section wire in FlexPDE 3D? Would it involve using a coordinate transform?

A coil could in theory be constructed by subjecting an off-axis rod to a rotating coordinate transformation, but I fear that the resulting distortion of the cells might be severe.

One should also be able to construct the coil a half-turn at a time in layers. But the requirement that layer-dividing surfaces be continuous and non-vertical, and that the half-turns join smoothly, makes this difficult. I have experimented with it, but have not yet succeeded in making it work.
