I have upgraded my software to FlexPDE Professional version 5.0.12 2D running on Windows XP Professional version 2002 service pack 2.

Is it possible to stop a problem that has been calculating for several hours, store the intermediate results up to that time point, close FlexPDE, and return later to restart the problem from the previous stop point?

Regards,

Kyle

Only if you plan ahead.

If you include a TRANSFER output command at timed intervals, and export a complete list of variables, you can later use a TRANSFERMESH to input the full state into a new problem.
You ned to transfer into dummy names and use the dummy names as initial values in the restart run.

We have had a restart facility on our development list for a long time, but never seem to get to it, mostly because there is the workaround described above.

The FlexPDE 5.0 Reference Manual says the TRANSFER output command is not supported for time-dependent problems (top of page 97). What can be done to re-start time dependent problems?

It appears that the printed manuals have not been updated to the latest revision level of the documentation.

See the equivalent section of the imbedded Help system for the latest revisions.

Thank you for pointing this out to us.
