Is it possible to get half-transparent 3D-views? It would help to see the model structure thru. |

If you export data using one of the export plot types (CDF, TECPLOT, VTK or VTKLIN), you can use any of a large number of visualization packages to create any kind of graphical representation you want. See VisIt, Myavi, TecPlot, NetCDF and others. Many of these are free downloads. The cutaway graphics shown on our website were created by VisIt from VTKLIN output.

PS In my previous response I assumed you know that you can plot contours on arbitrary cut planes directly from FlexPDE (see documentation). You can also plot mesh intersections on cut planes and color them by material (PAINTMATERIALS) or by individual region/layer (PAINTREGIONS).

Yes, thank you Robert, I know there is a possibility to view cross sections immediately by FlexPDE. But what I was thinking of it's a transparency feature, which wouldn't actually require much of extra code in your program, but will make it possible to view the whole model in 3D, seeing all details thru. Advantages: no need to select "right" cross-cuts, one completely sees his structure. For example, 3D capacitor (from standard samples), it looks as a cube, you have to be really sure that you plotted everything inside as you planned. And any complex 3D structure is going to be "hidden" behind the outer cube the same way. I mean, it's possible to get all info from FlexPDE, but it would be really much more convenient to get an option to have everything half-transparent or, say, wireframe (but then mesh should be highlighted somehow differently and boundaries outlined). Anyway, thank you for you detailed response! |

just for illustration: http://www.ardigitech.com/samples/3dmech7.jpg it's much more informative than only the outer shape. If all objects are partly trapsparent, then one can see all of them in depth. |

We will put it on the development list. I also forgot to mention that you can get 3D outer surface plots of any subregion using the command GRID(x,y,z) ON REGION 'A' ON LAYER 'B' See "Samples | Misc | 3D_Domains | 3d_Extrusion_spec.pde" This isn't as useful as the transparent display you request, but it's something.... |
