Trying to understand why FlexPDE invokes extrusion instead of acting straight as in 2D-problems. Could anyone give some comments, why it was required to come up with a specific approach for 3D, rather then build objects specifying their 3D-coordinates (as in most of numerical simulators)? Thank you.

FlexPDE was originally a 2D program.
We saw the extrusion approach as a convenient first step toward full 3d.

We will move to full 3d domain definition in a later version.

The solution process is fully 3D, the domain definition process is not.
