Hi I'm a new user and I could do with some help regarding the construction of my model. I'm trying to define a 3d structure with an upper and lower volume (rectangular layers, Lx=Ly, z=h1) divided be a third layer with in reality corresponds to a membrane. This rectangular membrane (Lx=Ly, z=h2) has conically shaped holes inside (R1,R2). I managed to get a cylindrical hole by using the extrusion command but didn't succeed with a cone... I would be glad for any help on this! Thanks, Sabine |

I just realized ReChang asked a very similar question only two days ago. Still in my case it's not the question of how to build the cone, but how to link the cone to the membrane layer. To make things clear the attached file shows one quarter of a cylindrical hole (I'm limited to the students version). |

"Sidewalls", as you have used, must be vertical extrusions, and cannot be tapered. To make a conical hole, you must shape one of the dividing surfaces as a cone, and bring it up or down to merge with the adjoining surface over the center of the hole. See the attached script and graphic.

Hi there thank you for your help! I had tried to do something similar, i.e. shape the wall as a cone but I didn't manage to define an appropriate "limited region". Does this formalism also work in the case of e.g. a double conical hole? Or is this rather a question a finding the right equation for zbottom? Thanks again Sabine |

Ok, I answered that question to myself already :-) |
