Hi, I need to calculate the principal stresses from stresses refered to a cartesian basis.
Is there any way to do this without write in the script the equations from an eigenvalue calculation from the stress matrix. Thank you very much in advance?

Professor Backstrom discusses these issues in his books "Fields of Mechanics", based on FlexPDE and available for download from his website. See the links in our Bookstore www.pdesolutions.com/bookstore.html

He does the calculation you require in the examples in the folder "Backstrom_Books/deformation_and_vibration" included in the FlexPDE distribution.

Sorry, I overlooked the "3D" in the title. The examples I mentioned are in 2D.
