1. You can construct an ellipsoid by rotating an ellipse in 2D CYLINDER coordinates. This will allow you to solve axisymmetric problems in the ellipse, but it will not create 3D plots of the ellipsoid. 2. You can create an ellipsoid in 3D using the same techniques as in the example problems "Samples | Usage | 3D_domains | 3D_Sphere.pde". Modify the intersection trace and the Z(x,y) functions.

Hi Dear Robert G. Nelson how can I plot an ellipse in 2D coordinates? How can I plot an ellipsoids in 3D coordinates? I want to plot a hemiellipsoid emdeded in a box. is it possible? thanks |

1. See "Arc" in the Help index, under the paragraph labelled "Elliptical Segments". 2. You can construct an ellipsoid by rotating an ellipse in 2D CYLINDER coordinates. This will allow you to solve axisymmetric problems in the ellipse, but it will not create 3D plots of the ellipsoid. 3. You can create an ellipsoid in 3D using the same techniques as in the example problems "Samples | Usage | 3D_domains | 3D_Sphere.pde". Modify the intersection trace and the Z(x,y) functions. 4. You can build a Hemiellipsoid in a box in 3D by constructing a two-layer extrusion. The first and third surfaces are the top and bottom of the box. The second surface is the max of the box bottom and the ellipsoid top surface constructed in 3.
