There is one example problem about elastic stress-deformation analysis in this web. But i just wonder whether someone have tried to solve an elasto-plastic stress-deformation problem using FlexPDE. If anyone has tried, would you pls tell me some details of how to form the pdes and define the yield function?

Actually, there are nine problems under "Steady_State | Stress", and another ten in the Backstrom_Books section of the distribution. but never mind....

We have not yet constructed an example of elastic/plastic deformation, and I can only direct you to textbooks on the subject, which is where we would go to formulate an example.

You can start in a straightforward way by solving an elastic problem and plotting an indicator function of the region in which the yield strength is exceeded. Similarly, the equations of creeping flow should be straightforward.

One thing you should be careful of is implied collapse of the structure. If your problem specification is such that structural collapse is implied, the solution will probably fail to converge.
